Cleveland County GOP -

From the Chairman

Wes Westmoreland, Chairman

As I stood for the National Anthem at a salute to veterans this past July, the question at the end of the first verse struck me in an unusual way, “…does the Star Spangled Banner yet wave, o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?” I must admit that a lump rose in my throat as the song ended…

North Carolina and the United States face the greatest challenges of our lifetime- challenges to the very core of the freedom that has made America the greatest nation on earth. These challenges did not begin with the election of Barack Obama, but they have certainly become dramatically more evident in the months following his election.

Whether you are concerned about the rights and opportunity for all individuals, personal or national security, economic security, or if you are just tired of “politics as usual”, your involvement is a critical part of the solution. The Republican Party presents the opportunity for you to make a difference.

It seems appropriate that our National Anthem ends in a question, because in a free society the question always presents itself- shall we be free tomorrow? This question will always be with us, because freedom requires the action of the people.

You can take action today to help ensure that the answer to the question is a resounding YES! Consider this your invitation to join us at our regular meeting, or at one of our events. I look forward to seeing you there.
